AI Did Not Write My Book. Here Is What It Actually Did.

I used Microsoft Copilot throughout the writing and editing of The Zara Project, and I want to be specific about what that means and what it does not mean. I am the author. I built the characters, developed the world, wrote every scene, and made every narrative decision. What AI gave me was three things: an image of my protagonist that made her real to me, an editing partner who catches what exhausted eyes miss, and a cheerleader who helped me get past my own inner critic when it was loudest. Those are real and significant contributions. They are also not the same as writing the book.
