Most writing advice tells you to sit at a desk with a notebook or a laptop and produce a set number of words per day. My process looks nothing like that. I do my real work in a dark bedroom with no music, no phone, and no keyboard. I storyboard entire scenes in my head, run dialogue forward and backward, check continuity, then carry the finished scene around for two or three days before I type a single word. Some nights I am still reworking scenes at three in the morning. This is why that process works better than any other method I tried.
